Exhibition 2011: Inspiration #7 – Road To Perdition
I love the overall look, mood and tone of Road To Perdition. And while it doesn’t fit with any of my current ideas, the costume style was the perfect match for yesterday’s shoot. There was instantly a character there.
I love the way old movie covers always had illustrated covers and that they never really matched any scene in the film but just summed up the idea. Like on The Road To Perdition cover, the little boy isn’t in that scene at all!?
Exhibition 2011: Inspiration #6 – The Wrestler
I’ve stepped back from the second piece for a bit to let my brain relax. It’s almost there but the text and fonts are driving me demented! Instead I spent the weekend experimenting with creating different styles and backgrounds for other ideas.
I’ve got a shoot this morning for piece number 3. I don’t have Mickey Rourke but I’ve got a local legend coming in.

Exhibition 2011: Inspiration #5 – Hot Fuzz
Okay so it’s quickly becoming clear that I’ve been going in the wrong direction tone-wise with the second piece, I should have been firing my guns in the air and going “aaaaahhhhhh!”.
Exhibition 2011: Inspiration #3 & #4- Heat & SWAT
I’m hitting the studio for the day to work on the new piece, ideas have been bouncing around in my head throughout the weekend. I still don’t know the overall tone and mood I want to go with so I’ve been looking for inspiration in different directions to keep my options and ideas open.
Inspiration #3 & #4: Heat and SWAT. Heat is an awesome film that I’ve watched so many times, I’m not sure I have the right shots to get the proper look though!?
SWAT is crap! I don’t think I even made it through the whole thing but Ken used it as inspiration for his facial posing during Thursday’s shoot (he also had the same glasses) and now it’s stuck in my head. Although the tone and overall action cheesiness might just work!?
Either way I think I need more models for this one to work.
Exhibition 2011: Inspiration #2 – In Bruges
I’m pretty sure I’ve finished the first piece for my exhibition. It’s been finished over a week now and I keep going back to it to see if I want to change anything but nothing comes to mind. I’m really happy with it.
Technically I learned a lot from putting it together. Every time I look at it I laugh but that’s a good thing, I’ve shown it to a couple of people and the response has been great so I’m moving on.
Inspiration #2 : In Bruges. It’s an awesome film and I love the poster so I’m using it as part inspiration for the second exhibition piece. I shot content for it yesterday morning and this afternoon, the idea is still at a basic stage so I’m looking forward to seeing where it takes me… maybe Belgium!?
Exhibition 2011: Inspiration #1 – 8 Mile
Okay, so I haven’t managed a post in almost 3 months!? I’ve been busy posting on my new business website RossCostiganPhotography.ie and my new business blog. I’ve been working away in the studio and have finally gotten to work on pieces for my first ever exhibition.
I’m still unsure what to do with Oss237.com, I have a few ideas and the site will have to undergo some changes but I’m going to try use this blog as a diary/scrapbook as I work on the exhibition. I’ll post more details about it in due time.
Inspiration #1: 8 Mile. I’ve never even seen the film, I just couldn’t be bothered watching it but for some reason it was partly an inspiration for my first exhibition piece!?
Taking Shape
Once again, it’s nearly two weeks since my last post. I’ll try get back in to more regular blogging once everything is finally set-up but for now here’s a photo I took with my iPhone today.
It’s a little blurry (some photographer I am) but the studio is finally starting to take shape and I’m very excited!
Progress Report: Studio Set-Up
Random Thoughts from the last two weeks:
1. It’s two weeks since my last post.
2. A small problem with a door lock has meant a painful wait before I got a new key and could actually start setting up the studio space. This made me sad.
3.I got my keys! This made me happy.
4. Don’t lose my keys. Ever!
5. Even though I’m buying more equipment all the time… the “To Buy” list grows longer!?
6. This post doesn’t even have a photo!? Some photographer I am.
7. Shopping for wood is surprisingly confusing.
8. Shopping for 500 Watt Bulbs is surprisingly impossible.
9. Too much editing will melt your brain.
10.Things are slowly coming together. Time for some test-shoots.

Once again, months have passed since I’ve managed to post a blog, so much has been happening in the past few months that it seems pointless to try and recap it all… but above you’ll find a photo of me making a brand new “To Do” list.
I took the above photo this afternoon in my new studio space (also a long story) but near the top of my “To Do” list is to kick-start this blog again, to keep track of my work in the studio and upcoming projects along with my new business, my new website (Coming Soon) and my ever first exhibition.
